"Birdman" and "The Imitation Game" to open 2014 Camerimage Film Festival

 It is less than four weeks away to the beginning of the annual celebration of cinema - the 22nd edition of the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography CAMERIMAGE! Everything will start on Saturday, November 15th, with the grand Opening Gala that will go down in the Festival's history, for among various other attractions we will screen two amazing motion pictures that has already been named major cinematic events of 2014 and generating huge awards buzz. It gives us an immense pleasure to announce thatBirdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (dir. Alejandro G. Iñárritu, cin. Emmanuel Lubezki) and The Imitation Game (dir.Morten Tyldum, cin. Óscar Faura) will be the opening films of Camerimage 2014, adding splendor to the Opening Gala! Both screenings will be the official Polish premieres. 


 

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)


Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) is a black comedy directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the filmmaker behind Amores PerrosBabel and 21 Grams. The film tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton) – famous for portraying an iconic superhero – as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself. The creative team behind Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) includes Academy Award® winning cinematographerEmmanuel Lubezki (GravityThe Tree of Life), two time Academy Award® winning costume designer Albert Wolsky (All That Jazz,Bugsy), production designer Kevin Thompson (Michael ClaytonThe Bourne Legacy) and two editors, Douglas Crise (Academy Award®nominee for Babel) and Stephen Mirrione (Academy Award® winner for Traffic). 

 

The Imitation Game


The Imitation Game is based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing. The film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers at Britain's top-secret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. The films stars the phenomenal Benedict Cumberbatch (August: Osage County, TV series Sherlock) and Academy Award® nominee Keira Knightley (Pride and Prejudice).

The creative team behind The Imitation Game includes European Film Award nominated cinematographer Óscar Faura (The Orphanage,The Impossible), Academy Award® winning editor William Goldenberg (ArgoZero Dark Thirty), six time Academy Award® nominated composer Alexandre Desplat (The QueenFantastic Mr. Fox) and BAFTA Award nominated production designer Maria Djurkovic(Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, SpyThe Hours).

The premiere Camerimage screenings will be held on 15th November in Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz. The screening of Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), which will also take part in the Camerimage Main Competition, will have its premiere at the Festival only a month after the U.S. wide release, and over a month before European wide releases. The special screening of The Imitation Game will take place only one day after the wide release in the U.K. 

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) will have its Polish release on 27th February 2015. Polish distributor: Imperial - CinePix Sp. z o. o.
The Imitation Game will have its Polish release on 16th January 2015. Polish distributor: Forum Film Poland 

Both screenings will be a part of Camerimage 2014 Opening Gala, to which you need an invitation. However, subject to availability of free seats, we will admit holders of festival passes.
