Release in Ukraine and a step to Cannes

Participation in the children's television festival “Dytiatko” gives rise to future creative implementation of many young talents. A young director from Kyiv which is preparing to conquer the world famous festival felt something similar.

Clear your heart and you will change the world

Fourteen-years-old Mykyta Tymoshchuk is packing his bags, going to Europe. This Ukrainian talent made his way to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Short animation film of a young Kyiv citizen “The Island” became a part of this year program of Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival, also this film was invited to take part in the final competition of short films GRRFestival in Italy.

The history of “The Island” began with writing the eponymous ballad, later pictures appeared on its margins... As the author shared, this story about the unknown island somewhere in the ocean. People who live on it are happy, they live in love, labor and unity with nature. One can find the island only by clearing the heart. The young philosopher says that maybe he lives in order to change our such a difficult world, make it brighter and cleaner.

“In the movie “The Island” I showed the world as it should be - pure, sincere, bright. Without evil and violence. Such world may or can be found or created by everyone of us as we wish, there is no need in waiting for some external force. Everything you need to make a better world is already within each of us,” convinced Mykyta Tymoshchuk.

“The Island” has received the Gold Medal at the International Championship of computer talents "Golden Bytes - 2015". The first premiere of this film in the life of the young director took part last Thursday, May 7, in the capital's cinema “Kyiv”. In autumn it will be released in Ukraine.

The first and most valuable

The first step to the pedestal of glory for the movie “The Island” was our Kharkiv Television Festival “Dytiatko”, which is supported by the Chairman of the Regional Council Sergii Chernov. This animation work became the winner of this contest last year.

For the first time Mykyta took part in the festival in 2013 with the animated film “A cat and a cake” and the short film “I will be happy if ...” The film was among the winners, it received a special jury prize. Also during the festival a boy made a "creative task" - the film "The Fifth Element", which won in its nomination.

Mykyta says that for him "Dytiatko" is the start, and the most valuable award for him is the glass disc prize "Dytiatko" because it was the first one.

“Taking part in it and, moreover, winning, children gain faith in themselves, and those who had it, the victory adds strength. It is much easier to go along, it feels as if your old friend supports you”, Mykyta gives his assessment of the festival.

He recalls when he assured himself in how many talented boys and girls in our country are engaged in cinema. I am convinced that children's creativity should be supported if the Ukrainian film industry gains development and succeeds.

“I believe that we should support by: reducing school load for authors when they are working on the project and provide technical assistance of professionals - programmers, video editors”, the young filmmaker expressed his opinion.

Sources of inspiration

Mykyta’s favorite genres are action and detective. Boy is inspired by the creativity of internationally known masters of cinema: George Lucas, Oleksandr Tatarskyi, Yurii Norstein, Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Hayao Miyazaki, Makoto Shinkai and also his family: mom Nadiia Soloviova and dad Andrii Tymoshchuk, who, by the way, is the director.

Hamster Platon, Mykyta’s pet, inspired him to create one of his first works. Fluffy animal was involved in the appearance of a short feature film "I will be happy if ...".

The boy is not only talented in the cinematograph. Mykyta writes poetry, prose, ballads in three languages, creates architectural projects. Once he just wanted to make a movie and cartoons. Foreign cinema halls are waiting for the Ukrainian Mykyta Tymoshchuk today.

Opening with a Bang and Some Blood

Despite murmurs of criticism amongst festival regulars, George Miller’s “Mad Max” looks to be a thrilling two hour kickoff for Thursdays big day of films. The film will be followed by Matteo Garrones “Il Racconto Dei Racconti”, which has created quite a bit of excitement in the film world. The cinematog...

If, as Roger Ebert has said, movies are a giant machine that generates empathy, what does it look like on the big screen and how do you encourage it in emerging writers and filmmakers? What influences will it have for society as a whole? And is it tilting at windmills or who has done it successfully?

The Lobster - Press Conference

by Martin I. Petrov

Being among the films that got exceptional reception by press and industry professionals, The Lobster by Greek director Yiorgos Lanthimos premiered this morning and it was followed by an all star cast press conference, including Colin Farrel, Rachel Weizs and Lea Seydoux.

Among the highlights of the conference was Lanthimos' will to return to his homecountry to do films, but as he explained - it is still extremely difficult.

We asked him about the female empowerment in The Lobster, as his female characters seem to be in charge and he humorously replied: "Everyone was telling me that women were supressed in my films, so I decided that it was about time to make them leaders".

Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film – A week full of animated highlights

$

With about 80,000 visitors the 22nd Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) came to an end on Sunday, May 10, 2015. The organizers are totally satisfied with this resonance. Despite unfavourable circumstances like the rail strike of Deutsche Bahn, which took place during the whole festival week, the record of 2014 almost could be reached. The visitors witnessed over 1,000 films in about 200 single events. For the first time two events were shown online with a livestreaming, it was used by about 5,000 people.

Every day a big highlight was presented besides the competition and supporting programme: Numerous special formats have established and thrilled the audience. On Wednesday the German Animation Screenplay Award as well as the Tricks for Kids Series Award have been awarded at Neues Schloss (New Castle). Besides the two actresses Anna and Nellie Thalbach a live performance of the Stuttgart Opera offered high-class entertainment. The German Voice Actor Award was given to Ralf Schmitz on Thursday. Host Christoph Sieber presented an enjoyable show with Simpsons director David Silverman and Dodokay at Renitenztheater.

Friday’s highlight was the awarding of Animated Com Award for the best applied animation in the fields of advertising, technology and spatial communication as well as the special prizes by Daimler AG and U. I. Lapp GmbH. The top-class winner films and a keynote by Jörn Großhans (Mackevision), who recently was awarded with two Emmys for the visual effects in “Game of Thrones”, convinced the audience at Mercedes-Benz Museum.

Saturday’s highlight took place in Ludwigsburg: At „Music & Animation“ the guests were fascinated by breathtaking musical acts and visual performances. The event was organized in cooperation with Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, jazzopen Stuttgart, Scala Ludwigsburg and Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg. “We’re absolutely delighted”, said Prof. Ulrich Wegenast, Managing Director Programme at ITFS, “that we were able to offer an exclusive event like Music & Animation to our Ludwigsburg audience.”

For the first time the Game Zone took place at Württembergischer Kunstverein (WKV) this year. Under the slogan „Games for everybody“ game fans of all ages met there to play regional indie games as well as international blockbusters. Nils Bomhoff, host at RocketBeansTV & well known - not only within gaming scene - from NBC GIGA GAMES and MTV GameOne, was present and a true crowd puller. Further highlights have been the sold out world premiere of „Rascal the Little Raven 2 - The Big Race“ or specials like “20 years of Sailor Moon in Germany” with a cosplay event.

The 22nd Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film was organized with the support of about 80 cooperation partners. “Due to new partners like Hansgrohe, Stuttgart Opera and Reed Midem/MIPJunior but also Antenne 1 as media partner and the newly located Game Zone at Württembergischer Kunstverein (WKV) the festival widened its spectrum and its presence in Stuttgart once again”, said Dittmar Lumpp, Managing Director, Organisation & Finances at ITFS.

At the open air cinema thousands of animation film fans came together every day and filled the Schlossplatz very well - although the weather had its ups and downs. The short film programme during the day as well as the feature film programme got down well with the audience, also special events like GamesFlash, a flashmob of the Stuttgart Opera as well as the various offers at Festival Garden found an echo. The cinemas, presenting the competition programme and numerous further programme points, were packed with people, too.

But the festival finally had to find an end and so on Sunday the last, but therefore appropiate celebrated festival event took place: the awarding of the Trickstars, which are worth more than 60,000 Euros altogether.

Terror Film Festival 2015 Call For Entries is OPEN

$

0

Terror Film Festival is a blood-chilling, alien-probing, super-thrilling online international film festival designed for filmmakers and screenwriters that runs every October! And our Call For Entries is now open!

We are the only film festival in the world that offers the opportunity for filmmakers and screenwriters to get major exposure by bringing the audience right to their film. Also, being online removes the shackles of venue limitations (which limits the amount of people who can see your film -- 25 people vs 25 million people!) increasing the potential for you to gain more fans. Plus, we offer the one and only Claw Awards for film and screenplay. And, our world-class screenwriting competition is a great feather in the cap for any screenwriter. We do our best to let you know that it is all about YOU.

“TFF believes that it is through a legion of fans that a filmmaker or screenwriter can build a solid career in entertainment.”
~ Fel Angel, Filmmaker/Screenwriter/Festival Director/Terror Film Festival

Official Website:www.TerrorFilmFestival.com

Terror Film Festival was founded by filmmakers and screenwriters, and we know how difficult the road to success can be. That’s why we screen short films during the festival, but not the feature films. We only screen the feature film "trailers". The reason being that the integrity of your feature film must be kept intact if you expect to get a distribution deal. This way, your project can still be reviewed, you can still compete in the Claw Awards competition, and you can still have the opportunity to sell your film to fans during the festival. But, you do not suffer any interference with any distribution deal offers! Plus, All films and screenplays are reviewed by our selections committee, and all selected films and screenplays then become nominated for the coveted Claw Awards. Who knows, perhaps YOU will win the next Claw Award!

Terror Film Festival considers both short and feature length films and scripts (completed and Works-In-Progress), and we offer prestige, recognition, amazing exposure, and the Claw Awards. And we are completely driven by love of the craft. That's why TFF is committed to the filmmakers and screenwriters who bring great genre movies to the world. TFF is Halloween Cinematic!

Terror Film Festival is run like no other festival, because it is designed to help promote YOUR PROJECT, and more importantly, YOU. Our innovations are all designed to further YOUR career. Such as: Princess Horror, the first-ever film festival icon who is loved and followed by a legion of fans; The Claw Awards, the first-ever full-blown genre dedicated awards (heralded as "The Oscars of Indie Filmmaking"); Free Submitted Film Listings, the first and only listing of submitted films on a festival website in our massive stand alone section as an additional promotional vehicle for our creative artists as a thank you JUST FOR SUBMITTING A PROJECT.

Terror Film Festival also pioneered placing video interviews of our creative artists on our website. These are all unique marketing ideas that no other film festival in the world had ever explored before TFF. And we do it all because it brings more attention to YOU. TFF pioneered all of these concepts in 2006 to better serve our filmmakers and screenwriters, and we are proud to continue to offer them to our creative artists.

Thank You and Good Luck from Terror Film Festival.

TFF 2015 | Code: Debugging the Gender Gap Review

By Maria Esteves - May 17, 2015

The 14th Tribeca Film Festival World Premiere of CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap, directed by Robin Hauser Reynolds commenced Sunday, April 19, 2015, 1:00PM at Spring Studios, New York. A special panel discussion immediately followed with director Reynolds, chief learning officer Tamar Elkeles, Qualcomm, chief people officer Auguste Goldman, GoDaddy, and engineering director Jason Wong, Etsy, moderated by Adi Robertson, reporter, The Verge. CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap is a compelling and provocative documentary that explores America's history and present day disparity of women and people of color in the technology industry. It features archival footage of early pioneers such as English mathematician Ada Lovelace and U.S. Navy admiral/computer engineer Grace Hopper. In 1836, Lovelace wrote the first algorithm and became the first computer programmer. In 1944, Hopper invented the first compiler program (transforms source code written in a programming language into machine language) and coined the term “debugging.” CODE documentary includes detail interviews with chief technology officer Megan Smith, White House; founder Kimberly Bryant, Black Girls Code; and software engineers Adam Messinger, Twitter, Jocelyn Goldfein, Facebook, Lara Hogan, Etsy, Tracy Chou, Pinterest, and Jen Wang, Yelp.

As I recall in the mid 1980s, a recent graduate in computer science living in New York City, my career as software programmer on the mainframe computers coding COBOL, SAS, and DB2 began to flourish. The truth is, there were very few women and I moved quite often from one corporate entity to another to solitify my place in this industry and blaze my own path.

L’Association des Paralysés de France, with support of lots of partners, wanted to give a place of honour to people with disabilities.

In that perspective, they took benefit from the major and cultural event : Festival International du Film de Cannes, to tackle the handicap subject through cinema, by taking an interest in short movies about handicap. All handicaps are approached of course, including physical, sensorial or mental disabilities.

Entr’2 marches festival will take place in the city theater, 45 Mimont street in Cannes, (kindly offered by the city of Cannes) from May 17th to 22th. The projection room is totally accessible to people with reduced mobility, and this year, a particular effort was done to make it accessible to visually impaired people by installing the audio description.

The room was equipped with magnetic loop, all movies are french subtitled ; presentations and debates will be simultaneous subtitled, there is audio description available for all movies and an interpreter in LSF (French Sign Language) will translate during the final night.

This year, we received 400 movies from 52 countries and 45 short movies have been selected. All projections will be followed by a public vote :

-          Sunday 17th of May, from 3pm to 6pm,

-          Monday 18th of May, from 6pm to 9pm,

-          Tuesday 19th of May, from 6pm to 9pm,

-          Wednesday 20th of May, from 3pm to 5pm, the young Cannes inhabitants will attribute the youth price, then 6pm to 9pm : back to contest

-          Thursday 21th of May from 6pm to 9pm, a projection out of competition of “Mommy” will take place followed by a debate about difficult children, with ADAPEI 06 participating.

-          Friday 22th of May, from 6pm, Trophy ceremony with projection of winners movies (on invites only).

Jury president will be Simon LELOUCH, french director, who received « coup de cœur » price in 2014, with his movie :« Nous sommes tous des êtres penchés » and the rest of jury will be composed by people with disabilities representing each kind of handicap.

Projections are free. Free admission subject to availability.

The APF would like to thank its partners : the city of Cannes, the General Council of Alpes Maritimes, the Regional Council PACA, Mutuelle de France Plus, MEPSS, the associations Arte Filosofia, AFPJR, la Serpentine,…

The Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) is a 12-day showcase of up to 200 multi-genre films from Canada and over 40 other countries.

The festival hosts gala events, screenings, award ceremonies and special presentations. We host a large number of participating filmmakers from our backyard and round the world and connect them with the audience through post-screening question and answer periods, mingling at our events, and through panels and film talks open to the general public.

Each year’s line-up is presented in series that group CIFF’s offerings into easily identifiable categories including Canadian, American and World Cinema, Documentaries, Late Shows, Music on Screen and Shorts. We also present a number of awards to outstanding films selected by our audiences and esteemed juries.

CIFF exists to transform the way visual stories are shared and experienced. We discover and share the best and most remarkable, especially those that would not otherwise be seen.

CIFF’s vision emphasizes discovery. We are proud to be the first to debut and give exposure to new filmmakers, particularly championing and fostering Alberta’s own creative voices. Highlighting their work alongside that of established contemporaries, we celebrate the new energy and ideas they bring to the future of the art form, and make them an integral part of the exciting milieu of the festival.

This year's festival will run from Septermber 23rd-October 4th, 2015, and submissions are now open! Please visit http://www.calgaryfilm.com/2015-submissions for submission details and rules, or see below:

Cemetery of Splendor-Review

by, Cameron Lui   This movie is basically two hours of soothing ocean sounds. If you are having some insomnia issues I recommend this movie.    Basically, most of the audience walked out of the theater by the third act and the rest were bobbing their heads in and out of a mid-day nap.    I proudly kept my eyes open to soak up the entire movie but for some reason the director decided to go nowhere with a premise that had a lot of potential.    &l...

Teo Corban - Interview for One Floor Below

Teo Corban is a Romanian actor, working mostly in theatre and known for his appearances in Christian Mungiu’s 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days and the recent Berlinale success Aferim! by Radu Jude. Corban plays Patrascu, the main character in Radu Muntean’s One Floor Below, in this year’s Un Certain Regard section. Patrascu lives a happy family life in contemporary Bucharest. His life is challenged when he witnesses a domestic quarrel that end with a murder.   Would you s...

Sea of Trees-review

by, Cameron Lui   Critics have not been very fond of the premier booed “The Sea of Trees,” directed by the talented Gus Van Sant.    Mathew McConaughey and Naomi Watts did not deserve the criticism they received during the premier. While many critics have called this one of the worst recent films by McConaughey, I thought he turned out yet another consistently passionate performance.    What made the movie so insightful was how right they got the dark...

True Love is Blind-Lobster review

by, Cameron Lui   I have never in my life seen an ending that made multiple audience members sprint for the exits. The Yorgos Lanthimos directed “The Lobster,” stops at nothing to make the audience feel as uncomfortable as possible.    The quick and unexpected violence left the audience in shock and made many consider leaving the theaters. However, the violence had so many blatant metaphors for modern day love that the extremity of them were almost a...

The Art of Queuing

There are many things people to not know about the film festival in Cannes and one of these things is the challenge of queuing. In many of the theatres, anyone with a cinephile badge have access to see screenings, however, there are of course only a certain amount of seats in a theatre. Depending on the time and title queues to get in have people waiting in line for two hours, even more for some at the front. It is the tedious, often boring task we must face to see films here but it is somethi...

"Sea of Trees" Review: Why It Didn't Deserved To Be Booed

I have never been to a movie before that has been booed by more than a few people. Although, I was not at the press screening, it was reported that much of the audience received Gus Van Sant's new film "Sea of Trees" with much disappointment. The film stars oscar winner Matthew McConaughey as Arthur Brennan, who attempts to commit suicide in Japan's haunting forest.  Throughout the whole film, I thought to myself "why on earth would this get booed so drastically?&q...

Tale of Tales, a Mother/Son relationship

by, Cameron Lui   Salma Hayek is not a mother to mess with. She makes it clear to her son that his behavior is disappointing yet he continues to sneak off to the woods and in nooks of the castle to hang out with his virgin birth born, peasant twin. I could explain that better but it would be too big of a spoiler.    One of the most subtly beautiful scenes is when she calls for her son to come into her chamber and mistakenly calls in his peasant twin. She does not see...

The Irrational Man Review

Regardless of opinions surrounding his controversial personal life, Woody Allen has strong philosophical views which he passes on through his work.   “The Irrational Man,” stars Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, whom both turned in yet another powerful performance with stretched out and brutally honest conversations.    What made the movie so great was its directness. While the heavy dialog made for an uncomfortable movie, it was clearly the intention of th...

The Lobster - Review

By Martin I. Petrov ‘Put your headphones on and wait for my sign. We need to press play at the same moment to be synchronised and dance.’ Two loners, each holding their own music player surrender to the melancholic sound only they can hear among the trees in a silent forest. Only a split second is enough for one to venture into Yiorgos Lanthimos’ nostalgic ode to solitude.  The loners, this is how we call them. Ordinary singles, in the not so distant future, ar...

Sea of Trees Opens at Cannes Film Festival

Sea of Trees Opens In Cannes   Off to a rocky start, Sea of Trees had its premiere last night at the Grand Lumiere Theater. It was the first film this year booed by a section of the audience during the press screenings the night before. Some had said that it was too pushed and the emotion did not feel real. Scott Foundas from Variety stated that the movie was "Dimestore mysticism of a highly maudlin and unpleasant order, passionately and deservedly booed." Du...

Festival Attracts Big Names Off the Screen

The Film Festival is not all about the screenings and the stars, but also how the ambiance changes within the city of Cannes. The weather is warmer, the streets are more lively, and the events are bigger. With the festival in town, a new season starts for local clubs that open up such as the Gotha Club all the way down the croissette to Palm Beach. Exclusive and pricey, but it also boasts some of the biggest names in the biggest industry coming to their venue.  To kick off their festivit...

Ambitious crowdfunding campaign to raise 80 000 USD for the production of the film Rendel

Finnish superhero feature Rendel has launched an ambitious crowdfunding campaign to raise 80 000 USD for the production of the film. Even though the campaign is considered as very big in Finland producer-director Jesse Haaja is not afraid of the challenge. The rude touch of indie filmmaking can be seen in the campaign as well. Besides many traditional perks like t-shirts and posters, funders can also try their wings by acting supportive part as a villain in the film or suppor...

Walking the Red Carpet

After a solid twenty minutes of begging for tickets to Inside Out in front of the Palais today, a friendly woman gave me her tickets only after I swore that I would attend the event. In the Grand Théâtre Lumière every seat must be filled, so ticket holders who do not want to attend must give away their tickets and cannot sell them. When you have a ticket to one of the evening screenings, you must look nice, and it is better to arrive early in order to secure a go...

Digital Landscape in Cannes

Today in the International Village at the Dominican Republican Film Pavilion there was a workshop called “Digital Landscape in Cannes.” Frédéric Boënnec and Gotham Chandna held the workshop. The topic of the workshop was social media, and how to use social media as a tool when creating a film.   In today’s modern world, it is difficult to meet a person who does not use any form of social media. Whether it is Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Link...

Marché du Film Makes China Connection, Draws More Countries for 2015 Edition

CANNES (May 21, 2015)

This year's edition of the Marché du Film is wrapping on a high note, with an uptick in the number of territories in attendance, and an enthusiastic response to new
innovations, including the first China Summit, the first private Investors Club for high-net individuals, and the second editions of both NEXT, the pavilion dedicated to the future of cinema, and the Marché Mixers cocktails.
"I'm delighted with the results all round," said Jerome Paillard, the Executive Director of the Marché du Film. "We have seen real connections made at our first China Summit and had a positive response to the China Summit seminars which have drawn top- level panelists to speak about topical themes, from VOD to international productions.
John Sloss, Gabriel Hammond, Vincent Grimond, Rena Ronson, David Linde were some of the many speakers at the Cannes Investors Club. “Through our first Investors Club for high-net individuals, new to film, we have sought to welcome potential partners here on the Riviera, and hopefully tapped into additional sources of funding for films of all size."

More Countries
This year, there were 120 countries that took part in the Marché du Film, marking an increase of four countries, including Afghanistan, while Nepal, despite the recent tragedy, was also represented by a producer.
And growth could be witnessed within certain individual territories, including, notably, South Korea. "We saw a ten-percent growth in attendance in 2014, followed by fifteen percent this year from that territory, thanks to new ventures in South Korea," he said.
Meanwhile, two new initiatives introduced in 2014, including the NEXT Pavilion dedicated to the future of cinema, and the second set of Marché Mixer cocktails,
focusing on specific themes, were also enthusiastically received.
"A highlight for us was to have Ted Sarandos of Netflix 'In Conversation' for NEXT. Netflix is one of the companies making the future of cinema, and it is important to hear firsthand how they are going about it," he said. "Sarandos kicked off a packed program of forward-thinking talks as part of a prime program that was booked to capacity."

Additionally, a number of other ongoing platforms within the Marché were fully booked well in advance of the market, including the Producers Workshop, the Producers Network and the Works In Progress program.
With documentaries making up around sixteen percent of market titles, the Doc Corner is another key section each year.
"Documentary filmmakers find having such a dedicated space within the market a huge plus, as do buyers, sellers and programmers," said Julie Bergeron, Head of Industry Programs.
“This year, around 80 percent of the market titles screening were world premieres. This is a great result," said Paillard.
This year there were 1500 screenings. The Marché completed the overhaul of its existing screening rooms, and added the nine screens at the Olympia to the collection of Marché theaters for 2015.
Finally, new and returning pavilions on the Croisette this year included Iran and Japan which last had a pavilion in 2010.
"The international pavilions each year provide registered badge holders with the opportunity to go on a global tour of the film industry, right here at the International Village," said Maud Amson, head of Sales and Operations. "The Marché is a truly global endeavor, and we are so pleased to once again welcome delegations from as far afield as Ireland and Iran. What this means is increased diversity. The Marché is not only the biggest industry gathering of the year but also the most global."

Green Room-Review

by, Cameron Lui   This heavy metal centric horror thriller is based in a KKK inspired white supremacist barn party green room. If you love dogs and want to continue not being afraid of them don’t watch this movie, trust me.    The premise of the movie is pretty unique and it opens with some awesome moments but as with most horror movies it gets painfully predictable. I won’t give any spoilers but you can probably guess who lives out of the band and the ra...

Inside Out-Review

by, Cameron Lui   Once again, Pixar delivered a heart-warming and thought provoking cartoon that can please any age.    The five emotions are played by Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black, which in itself guarantees a quality film. The way they intermingle is so political that it gave room for a lot of flexibility to make the story represent the cause of human behavior. What makes "Inside Out" so intriguing for adults is the evaluat...

"Sicario" Delivers A Gripping Thriller

Anytime you have the prolific Roger Deakins on set and powerful performances on screen, it is hard not to have a good film. Dennis Villeneuve's new masterpiece Sicario is, however, better than good. This action packed gripping crime drama that features Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benecio Del Toro is exceptional across the board and potentially has some oscar nominations coming its way. It is really no wonder why the film got a reportedly seven minute standing ovation at its premiere...

Pixar Outdoes Itself With Inside Out Premiere

Pixar Outdoes Itself With Inside Out Premiere On Monday, May 18th, Cannes Film Festival celebrated Animation Day to show off the talents and logistics of all things animation. The premiere movie at the Grand Lumiere Theatre was Inside Out, Disney-Pixar's new film about all of these emotions we have in our head like joy, anger, fear, sadness and disgust. It travels into the mind of a young girl named Riley, and portrays each emotion as their own person. Anger naturally shoots fire out...

Top Movies Thus Far

by, Cameron Lui   Ive seen 7 movies at the festival and counting, so here's my thoughts on the best ones so far.    1. The Lobster-hands down the best film in the festival thus far. It has a clear agenda that is executed with aggression and creativity. The acting was flawless, the writing beautiful, and it packs one of the biggest punches in cinema to date.    2. The Irrational Man-beautifully depressing film that has the honesty that only Woody Allen...

The Under-appreciated Short Film Genre

Can you name a single famous short film? If you can, it may take a while to get there. Short films have been and probably will always be unfortunately overshadowed by features but are a nice change of pace in the film industry.
